Many of the wide shots of the town of “Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania” are actually Woodstock, Illinois. While some of the street scenes were shot on the back lot of Universal Studios on the ‘Town Square’ set – the same set as Back to the Future. The tower in the scene above is the Woodstock Opera House. “Gobbler’s Knob”, where the groundhog scenes take place, is right across the street from the Opera House.
